Development Plan

Map out your club’s monthly growth with this guide.
In Taekwondo clubs, development plans help you structure growth and set realistic goals over different timescales, with short-term, medium-term and long-term goals in place. Here’s how they usually break down:
Short-Term Development Plan (0–6 months)
Focus: Quick wins, visibility, and immediate improvements.
- Increase membership through local marketing, taster sessions, and referrals.
- Improve class structure (clear beginner pathway, family-friendly sessions).
- Build social media presence and community awareness.
- Run small events (demonstrations, grading ceremonies, open days).
- Stabilise finances with consistent membership income.
Think: “What can we achieve this term/half-year?”
Medium-Term Development Plan (6–24 months)
Focus: Growth, retention, and stronger community presence.
- Grow membership by 30–50% and establish steady retention.
- Develop an instructor pipeline (train senior students as assistant coaches).
- Build partnerships with local schools, councils, and community groups.
- Host annual competitions, seminars, or inter-club events.
- Expand training options (extra classes, fitness/kickboxing sessions, holiday camps).
- Strengthen branding (club kit, logo, merchandise, professional website).
Think: “What can we build sustainably over the next 1–2 years?”
Long-Term Development Plan (2–5+ years)
Focus: Legacy, expansion, and higher-level opportunities.
- Establish the club as a recognised hub for Taekwondo in the region.
- Consistently produce black belts and possibly competitive athletes.
- Secure permanent facilities (own dojang, or long-term lease with branding).
- Build a team of qualified instructors (not relying solely on one head coach).
- Run regional/national seminars, grading exams, or host competitions.
- Develop pathways for students: recreation, leadership, refereeing, or competition.
- Financial stability through multiple income streams (classes, merchandise, grants, sponsorships).
Think: “Where do we want the club to stand in 5+ years?”
