Creating a Taekwondo club

Start a New Club

Clubs are at the heart of British Taekwondo, and we recognise the importance of creating strong, sustainable clubs.

Our aim is to support, develop and grow our club network, enabling clubs to offer quality products and services to their individual members.

We would encourage anybody looking to start a new Taekwondo club to contact us for advice, guidance and resources, to help you on your Taekwondo journey.

To be a lead coach, or club coach, in a British Taekwondo club you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a minimum of 1st Dan.
  • Hold a current British Taekwondo Membership.
  • Have current British Taekwondo Indemnity Insurance.
  • Have full disclosure check clearance with British Taekwondo.
  • Have completed the British Taekwondo online Safeguarding course – please contact education@britishtaekwondo.org for information and sign up to the NSPCC Child protection in sport and physical activity E-learning course.

The club must:

  • Be based within suitable premises to host sessions. This venue must NOT already host a British Taekwondo club.
  • Appoint a designated Club Welfare Officer who is not related to, in a relationship with, or co-habiting with, the Main Club Coach, to deal with all Safeguarding and child protection matters at the club. The Club Welfare Officer must attend ‘Safeguarding & Protecting Children’ and ‘Time to Listen’ or equivalent child protection training workshops in your home nation.

Things to consider when starting a Taekwondo club:

  • What will your club be called?
  • Who will be involved within the club set-up? I.e. Coaching team, Welfare Officer, Finance Officer, Marketing Officer etc.
  • Where will your club be based?
  • Who will your club sessions be aimed at?

Contact our Development team who will be happy to discuss your club plans, guide you through the process of registering your club with British Taekwondo, and discuss your training, development and resourcing needs.

We have a wealth of information available to coaches looking to create new Taekwondo clubs, as well as helping you throughout your Taekwondo journey.
