British Taekwondo is on a journey to become a world-leading National Governing Body. A cornerstone of this ambition is a modern, inclusive, and safe Coach Education Pathway that empowers coaches to deliver Taekwondo at the highest standards.
We are proud to align with CIMSPA, supporting the UK's national framework for professional recognition and workforce governance in sport and physical activity. British Taekwondo is also proud to be the only recognised 1st4Sport Technical Partner in the discipline of Taekwondo and Martial Arts.
Coach Training
The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Taekwondo – inline with UKCC qualifications, focuses on the skills and competences required to be able to plan, deliver and review Taekwondo sessions, either working independently.
Open to any British Taekwondo member aged 18 years and above, holding the grade of red belt or above, who wants to improve themselves and their club’s members.
The Assistant Coach Award helps all those assisting sessions gain invaluable knowledge and experience, whilst working alongside their club coach in a class setting as they progress through the award.
Anyone 16 years or older with a red belt or higher grade can sign up to take the British Taekwondo Assistant Coach Award, which is considered the first point in the British Taekwondo Education Pathway.
We want everyone to have the best possible involvement in Taekwondo and we strive to make sure that everyone who takes part is safe and happy.
There is mandatory safeguarding training for all British Taekwondo coaches, as well as specific courses for club Welfare Officers.
As part of our overall duty of care and our commitment to all British Taekwondo members we have launched our free-to-use Concussion Education programme.
This is a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to complete the Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Taekwondo, and usually takes 30 minutes to complete.
This interactive eLearning gives you the essential first aid know-how to spot, assess and respond to common issues in a sporting environment – fast, confidently, and in line with good practice.
Referee Training
British Taekwondo provides structured Poomsae training through performance camps, squad sessions, and development opportunities designed to support athletes at every stage of their journey.
From grassroots to elite level, we nurture technical excellence, confidence, and competition readiness, helping members reach their full potential in Poomsae.
British Taekwondo provides a clear and structured pathway for Kyorugi referees through education, training courses, and mentoring opportunities at every stage of their journey.
From first-time officials to those progressing onto the international stage, we support referees in developing their knowledge, confidence, and professionalism to uphold the highest standards of competition.
Club Welfare Officer Training
The High-Speed Safeguarding in Sport course will allow all adults, sports clubs and organisations to ensure a commitment to excellence in safeguarding.
It will provide you with the knowledge and tools needed to help keep children safe. Written by safeguarding and child protection experts, the course covers the key types of abuse to be aware of, how to identify them, and how to report and record your concerns.
Learn about the responsibilities connected with being a Welfare Officer, the skills needed to excel in the role, and how you can ensure that you’re supporting and safeguarding children effectively. The UK Coaching Course is developed in partnership with NSPCC
