About the Martial Art of Taekwondo

Traditional Taekwondo Martial Art clubs are family friendly, open to all ages and abilities, with real community atmosphere.

Taekwondo is a traditional martial art originating from Korea. Students practicing the martial art can expect to learn a full range of skills including kicking, punching, self-defence and poomsae (patterns).

Students can progress at their own pace through a martial arts syllabus, moving through a belt ranking system of white, yellow, green, blue and red colours. It can take up to an average of three years to reach black belt (dan standard).

Once achieving black belt, students can continue their Taekwondo journey, learning higher skills and progressing through the dan (degree) system. For more information see the Gradings section.

Taekwondo is excellent for building confidence, learning about respecting yourself and others, and teaches strong ethics and moral values for children and adults alike.
