Results from the World Taekwondo International Referee Courses in Manchester.
The 127th WT Kyorugi IR Seminar & 54th WT Poomsae IR Seminar took place in Manchester between the 4th and 12th February 2024.
British Taekwondo members took an examination to become International Referees during the events.
International Kyorugi (Sport) Referees
Five British Taekwondo members have qualified as International Kyorugi Referees.
Congratulations to Robyn Lewsley, Holly Boardman, Sharon Boardman, Thomas Inglis Potts, and Adam Stamp for successfully completing the International Kyorugi (Sport) Referee course in Manchester.
Commenting on the 127th WT Kyorugi IR Seminar Paul Timms, Chair of British Taekwondo’s Sport Referee Department said “I am immensely proud of the commitment and hard work these five brand new Internationally qualified referees have demonstrated. The limelight is theirs and rightly so, they deserve it.”
“I cannot personally take any credit for their success because that began a long time before I took up this role, but I have been fortunate enough to hold a shared part in their journeys and am therefore elated that they not only chose to pursue this level but succeeded in reaching it.”
“It only goes to cement the future aim of British Taekwondo’s Sport Referee Department to upskill and increase the overall number of British officials, five is the greatest number of IR’s British Taekwondo has ever qualified in a single course or year.”

International Poomsae Referees
Four British Taekwondo members have qualified as International Poomsae Referees.
Congratulations to Laura Burns, James Barrett, Thomas McGuinness, and Jim Montgomery for successfully completing the International Poomsae Referee course in Manchester.
These four esteemed British Taekwondo Poomsae referees participated in a course led by Jun Cheol Yoon, World Taekwondo Referee Chair, and Taek Young Kwak, World Taekwondo Poomsae Instructor & Professor at Yong-in University.
The course consisted of two days of technical training, followed by a three-day comprehensive seminar and assessment from the 8th to 12th of February.
As International Referees, they will have the opportunity to officiate at the highest levels of competition in Europe and beyond. Additionally, they will continue their important roles as team leaders at the national level, playing a crucial part in supporting the ongoing development of the poomsae referee community in the UK.
