Details of the new Supporting Safer Sports campaign from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) has launched its Supporting Safer Sports campaign, to help organisations to make safer recruitment decisions by providing safeguarding guidance and advice.
Sports organisations such as our British Taekwondo clubs do incredible work, providing huge physical, mental, and social benefits to children and adults alike, so it is essential that this important work is done as safely as possible. All sports organisations have a responsibility to ensure that safeguarding is their priority, so that everyone can safely access the wealth of benefits that sports clubs or activities can bring.
The DBS Safeguarding Safer Sports campaign will provide support to all sports sector organisations, from grassroots to elite level, to make informed recruitment decisions when hiring new staff and volunteers.
With the DBS entering a busy period due to the start of the academic year, we urge you to renew your DBS check as soon as possible. For coaches and instructors this can be done via The Hub up to 4 weeks before expiry of your current check, for Club Welfare Officers please contact Membership Services.
Please note, if your DBS check expires and you have not completed a new application then British Taekwondo will issue a temporary suspension in line with the British Taekwondo Code of Conduct.
