As part of British Taekwondo’s commitment to inclusivity, the organization has been working closely with individuals who are blind or visually impaired to create safe, engaging, and empowering opportunities to participate in Taekwondo at all levels.
Through adapted training methods, tactile coaching techniques, and a focus on spatial awareness and movement, British Taekwondo coaches are trained to support visually impaired athletes in developing their skills and confidence within the sport. These sessions are carefully designed to maintain the core values and technical integrity of Taekwondo, while making adjustments that enhance accessibility and safety for those with limited or no sight.
British Taekwondo has also collaborated with community groups and specialist organizations to identify and support visually impaired participants, helping them integrate into mainstream training or tailored Para Taekwondo pathways, depending on their needs and goals. This inclusive approach not only allows individuals with a visual impairment to experience the physical and mental benefits of Taekwondo, but also helps to foster independence, resilience, and self-belief.
