
David Ross Sports Village came alive on Day One of the 2025 British Taekwondo National Poomsae Championships, as power and precision filled the room throughout Saturday’s action in Nottingham.
The technique and focus on show was evident throughout, as our Community came together to celebrate our Martial Art in amazing fashion, with NTC ending the day being named Team Champion.
The exceptional standard of talent, precision, and spirit was evident across all age categories on Saturday, as athletes from clubs nationwide demonstrated their dedication to excellence in form and presentation.
In the U11 divisions, emerging stars like Skye Liu (NTC) and Ava Sau (Loughton Taekwondo) impressed judges with confident and polished performances, while Naomi Lam (Total Taekwondo) and Vi Ha Ho (Nomad Taekwondo) stood out in the U14 class.
Among senior competitors, GB Poomsae star Olivia McGeoch (Gajok Taekwondo Academy) shone in the U30 Female division, delivering technical excellence and poise that earned her top marks, while Maximo Libid (Kixstar Dragon Taekwondo) and Nino Ontoy (Manx Taekwondo) headlined the U30 Male division with world-class routines that highlighted the strength in depth across the British Poomsae community, with the latter claiming gold.
Gerry Reilly (Bluewave) led the way in U65 Male, showcasing precision and control that reflected decades of dedication to the art. Maria Pieri (UK Martial Arts and Fitness Academy) also impressed in the U60 Female division, with her fluid performance earning her top recognition in her class.
In the Pairs competitions, Cuba Wilson & Lucas Ng (Kang Han & NTC) had an outstanding performance, while Maximo Libid & Olivia McGeoch (Kixstar Dragon Taekwondo) also emerged as top performers, with exceptional form and presentation.

Edward Sobiecki & Naomi Lam (Total Taekwondo) were the standout pair in the U14 category, winning multiple rounds with scores consistently above 8.0, while Ava Sau & Skye Liu (Loughton / NTC) were dominant in the U11 field.
In the U11 Male Team division, the trio of Ethan Matthews, Skye Liu, and Vinz Lucero from NTC delivered a strong performance, securing the top spot with a final score of 6.850. Their execution and presentation scores reflected a well-rehearsed and confident routine.
For the U11 Female category, Ava Sau, Emilia-Grace Cabrera, and Tara Bhandal (Loughton / PremierKi) dominated with a winning score of 6.817, edging out their competitors with clean technique and strong presentation. Their consistency across rounds was key to their victory.
Bethany Smith, Fearne Corkish, and Brooke Kirlew (Kang Han & Dorset & Gajok) emerged victorious in the U14 teams, as well as U17 trio Peter Sellwood, Louis Exton, and Gabriel Casaclang (Central Taekwondo Academy, PremierKi & Win), who delivered an elite-level performance.
In the U50 Male category, Mohammad Jasim Ghias, Waseh Kohistani, and Abdul Hamid Qoreishi (London Taekwondo Academy) took the title, as Eunmi Pearson, Gillian Fitzpatrick, and Maria Pieri (Phoenix Taekwondo / NTC / UKMAAFA) triumphed with a score of 7.250. The U60 Male team of Mark Pawlett, Darren Naraine, and Ahilan Sandirasekaram (PremierKi / Dorset / Modokwon UK) impressed with a final score of 7.034.
We also had the chance to witness some incredible Freestyle Poomsae during the day, which was an amazing showcase of creativity and control on the matsThe Freestyle Dan divisions dynamism and artistic flair to the Championships, with traditional taekwondo techniques blended with music, acrobatics, and personal expression.
Katie Vaughan of JEM Taekwondo excelled in the 18+ Female Freestyle category with a score of 5.634, while U17 Female Marnie Adele Skylar Joud from CMS Academy also shone bright.
The 18+ Male category featured a head-to-head between Ryan White (NTC) and Darrel Masaire (Narae Taekwondo). Ryan White emerged victorious with a commanding score of 6.034, showcasing a well-rounded routine with high accuracy and presentation scores. Darrel Masaire followed with a score of 4.700, delivering a commendable performance that highlighted his potential in this demanding discipline.
The Family Pair Dan category was a heartwarming showcase of familial harmony and martial arts precision. Leading the division were Chan Sau and Ava Sau from Loughton Taekwondo, who delivered two consistently high-scoring performances. Their synchronization and technical execution earned them an average of 7.500.
The Family Dan divisions were a beautiful reminder of Taekwondo’s power to bring generations together, while our whole Community was vibrant throughout the day.
