CEO blog – February 2022.

After the stop-start frustration of the last two years it’s amazing that January has flown by and we’ve reached February already.

To those of you who I have not yet had the opportunity to, I’d like to wish you a Happy New Year.

We very much look forward to continuing to work with our long-standing members as well as forming and developing relationships with new members over the coming months and year ahead.
2022 is likely to continue to be challenging for sports clubs, coaches and athletes and Taekwondo is no different.

During the pandemic we spent time with our members and stakeholders to form our ten-year strategy and I’m pleased to say that key actions and programmes of work are underway to deliver on our promises. Watch this space!

It’s also British Taekwondo’s 40th year – so we want to mark this and make sure our Martial Art and Olympic Sport build on its new foundations, successes and restarts in 2021, and provide the help and support our members need to continue to grow.

An example of this is the launch of the new Assistant Coach Award in January. This has already seen 100+ people sign-up and begin their new learning journey or refresh their knowledge. This initiative, with more to come later this year with the launch of the Club Coach Award for lead instructors, can only make us all stronger and better placed to attract and retain members.

I am also delighted that our Poomsae National Championships can be confirmed early, after the stop/start Covid years we’ve endured. We’ll be announcing details of the Sport National Championships shortly too.

The ability to announce these events months in advance is a welcome step forward for 2022.

We also have two new members of staff, Dafydd Rowlands joins us as our National Development Lead and Richard Gottfried joins us as our Marketing, Digital & Media Manager. This strengthening of our team will enable us to service club needs much better in the coming months and years. It also gives us the resource to communicate a lot more with our coaches and members – something we have all acknowledged is much needed.

You will hear more from Richard, Dafydd and the rest of the British Taekwondo team in the coming weeks.

Good luck with your 2022 training, and I look forward to hearing from you our members and sharing your good news stories throughout the year.
