British Taekwondo National Kyorugi Championships 800

The stage is set for the 2025 British Taekwondo National Kyorugi Championships, taking place at the English Institute of Sport (EIS), Sheffield, on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th October 2025.

The biggest domestic Olympic-style Taekwondo event of the year will bring together over 900 athletes from across the country, ranging from grassroots competitors making their mark to established fighters pushing for national glory.

Over two thrilling days of action, spectators can expect fast-paced bouts, passionate displays, and electrifying competition as Britain’s best athletes compete for the coveted title of National Champion.

The event also acts as a platform for rising stars, many of whom will be hoping to use the Championships as a stepping stone towards representing Great Britain on the international stage.

“The National Kyorugi Championships are the pinnacle of domestic competition in our sport,” said British Taekwondo President, Sarah Stevenson-Jennings MBE OLY

“Our flagship event brings the Kyorugi community together, showcasing the depth of talent we have in the UK, and celebrating the passion and spirit that make Taekwondo so special.

“With over 900 athletes ready to compete from across the country, this year promises to be one of the biggest and best Championships we’ve ever delivered.”

With packed crowds, intense competition, and unforgettable performances, the 2025 Championships will be a true celebration of Taekwondo excellence in the UK.

Among those ready to compete in Sheffield are members of the British Taekwondo Sport Performance Pathway, with the likes of Luis Harrison (-41kg), Henry Hunter (-33kg) and Nyah Cannon (-33kg) ready to compete on the national stage, having represented Great Britain at the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships 2025 in Fujairah, UAE, earlier this year.

Stars of the U21 Development programme will also be battling for the right to be named National Champion this weekend in Sheffield, with Max Cartwright (-80kg), Lily Kingsley (-53kg) and Fabio Carvalho (-51kg) among those taking to the mats, with all three ready to compete at the U21 European Championships later this year.

With over 100 divisions to compete in, the action is set to be frantic right across the board, with competition covering Pee Wees all the way up to veterans, and plenty in between!

The Senior Male Advanced -68kg category will be one to keep an eye on across the weekend, with 21 entries from across the UK ready to compete for the gold medal, with last year’s defeated finalist Chris Cocker hoping to go one better this time around, while Oakley Wright will be looking to retain his title in the -74kg division.

Ayda Khorshidi is also back to defend her crown in the -57kg Senior Advanced female division in Sheffield, with the Stockport-based athlete facing competition from ten of the country’s best competitors in her quest to be named the best in the country once more, with plenty of talent on show across the two days.

We are all set for what promises to be a historic weekend of action, and can’t wait for the first fight to get going at 9am on Saturday!
