
British Taekwondo is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Timms as Technical Delegate and Darren Naraine as Chief Referee for the 2025 British Taekwondo National Kyorugi Championships, taking place in Sheffield on the 4th and 5th October.
These appointments mark an important step in ensuring that this flagship event is delivered to the highest possible standard, with both Paul and Darren bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles.
Paul Timms: Technical Delegate

As Technical Delegate, Paul will oversee the technical and organisational delivery of the Championships, ensuring that competition runs smoothly, safely, and in line with World Taekwondo standards.
A long-standing figure within British Taekwondo, Paul has held numerous leadership roles in event delivery and referee development, including supporting at major international competitions across the World. His experience will be invaluable at the biggest Kyorugi competition of the year, with over 800 athletes expected to be in attendance in Sheffield next month.
Speaking on his appointment, Paul said:
“It is my very great honour and privilege to accept the appointment as Technical Delegate for this years British Taekwondo National Championships. I have had the privilege of representing Great Britain as an elite referee at the very highest level of World Taekwondo events across all 5 continents over the past decade.
“I hold a Level 1 Technical Delegate Certificate issued by World Taekwondo and it is armed with this knowledge and experience that I perform this governance role behind the scenes to ensure that the competition meets the technical standards expected of an event of this size.”
Darren Naraine: Chief Referee

As Chief Referee, Darren Naraine will lead the team of referees and officials across the two days of action. Darren has built a strong reputation in both domestic and international officiating, having been involved with multiple Grand Prix events, as well as the World Championships in Manchester in 2019.
With over 30 years of experience in the sport and 18 years as a World Taekwondo qualified International Referee, Darren is a trusted member of the community who will be maintaining the highest standards of integrity and fairness on the field of play. His role will be central to upholding the quality and consistency of refereeing across all matches.
Speaking on his appointment, Darren said:
“I’m pleased to be appointed Chief Referee for this year’s National Kyorugi Championships. The role comes with great responsibility, but also the opportunity to support and guide our referee team so that athletes can compete in the fairest possible environment.
“I look forward to working closely with Paul and the rest of the event team to deliver an outstanding Championships.”
