Day Four of the World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships delivered another memorable result for Great Britain, as the O60 Female Team of Gini Brown (Bluewave), Pina Petrillo (Choson Taekwondo) and Jenny Furness (PremierKi) produced a strong run to the semi-finals and secured a World Championship bronze medal.
The trio’s achievement adds another medal to an already historic Championships for the British team, following Ali Pourtaheri’s World Championship gold and Simon Negus’ silver, with Great Britain now boasting three medals in Chuncheon.
The British team has already recorded its best-ever World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships result, with two days of competition still remaining.
Gini, Pina and Jenny headed straight into the competition at the semi-final stage, where they faced Australia for a place in the World Championship final.
The Australian team took the first round in Keumgang, scoring 8.460 compared with Great Britain’s 7.140, before producing another strong performance in Koryo to win 8.620 to 7.660.
Although the result brought their challenge for gold to an end, the British trio returned home with a World Championship bronze medal.
Their performance represents another significant achievement for the British Poomsae team, and everyone at British Taekwondo is incredibly proud of Gini, Pina and Jenny for the dedication, commitment and quality they have demonstrated to reach the world stage.

Elsewhere, Adrianna Beard of PremierKi was Great Britain’s representative in the U30 Female division, facing Macau’s I Ieng Lao in the Round of 64.
Adrianna produced a determined performance but was narrowly beaten in both rounds, with Lao taking Taebaek 8.880 to 8.780 before securing Taeguk 8.900 to 8.740.
Although her competition came to an end in the opening round, Adrianna can be proud of representing Great Britain at a World Championships and competing against the world’s best athletes.
The U17 Pair of Evie Co (Stevenage Taekwondo) and Gabriel Casaclang (Win Taekwondo) made an excellent start to their competition against Germany.
The British duo narrowly took the opening Taegeuk 7 Jang round 8.760 to 8.740, before producing an even stronger performance in Taegeuk 6 Jang to win 8.840 to 8.660 and progress to the Round of 16.
Mexico provided the opposition in the next round, with Great Britain again performing Taegeuk 7 Jang before being edged 8.820 to 8.680. The pair knew they needed to respond strongly in Taegeuk 5 Jang, but Mexico maintained its advantage to take the second round 8.880 to 8.640.
Evie and Gabriel can nevertheless be proud of reaching the Round of 16 and competing confidently against strong international opposition.
Mike Pejic and Gini Brown entered the O60 Pair competition at the Round of 16, where they faced a Spanish pairing.
Spain took the opening Taebaek round 8.460 to 8.100, before narrowly winning Hansu 8.340 to 8.300 to bring the British pair’s competition to an end.
There was an impressive run from the U14 Male Team of Eddie Sobiecki (Total Taekwondo), Augustine Kwon (Nomad) and Christian Casaclang (Win Taekwondo), who progressed through the Round of 16 after overcoming Brazil.
The British trio produced an excellent Taegeuk 5 Jang performance to score 8.700, compared with Brazil’s 8.460, before maintaining their advantage in Koryo with 8.500 to 8.440.
That secured their place in the quarter-finals, where they faced Chinese Taipei in a significantly tougher contest.
Chinese Taipei produced two high-level performances, winning the first round 9.120 to 8.780 and the second 9.060 to 8.740, bringing the British team’s competition to an end.
The U30 Male Team of Nino Ontoy (Manx Taekwondo), Zaw Torley (Arumchan Korea) and Oluwatimilehin Akinrele (Nomad) faced Spain in their opening contest.
Spain edged the first round in Keumgang 8.840 to 8.740, before taking Taebaek 8.940 to 8.820, bringing the British team’s competition to an end in the Round of 32.
Day Four has added another significant chapter to what has already been an extraordinary World Championships for the British team.
With Ali Pourtaheri’s gold, Simon Negus’ silver and the O60 Female Team’s bronze, Great Britain has now secured three World Championship medals in Chuncheon.
With two days of competition still remaining, there are more opportunities ahead for the British team, but the achievements already secured in Chuncheon represent a remarkable reward for the dedication of the athletes, coaches, clubs, families and supporters who have helped make this campaign possible.
