Nominations for the Awards will open on Friday 20th of September 2024, a link to the nominations form for each Award will be available on this page.

When completing your nomination you should clearly explain how the nominee has lived up to the Award description, in ways that match the British Taekwondo values. Specific examples and stories will help to bring your nomination to life.

You should also ensure that both you, and the person you are nominating have a valid British Taekwondo membership number, you’ll need both numbers in order to submit a nomination.

Club of the year

Award description

Recognising a club that has shown leadership, innovation and good business practice to ensure a long-term future for its members. A club that is friendly, welcoming, and safe to its members with highly skilled and qualified instructors, offering a wide variety of Taekwondo activities.

Award criteria

Can be a club, or association of clubs, operating a single venue or across multiple sites

All club members are British Taekwondo members

All coaches are registered on The Hub, with up-to-date background checks

Has an independent club welfare officer

Emerging club of the year

Award description

Recognising a club that has shown clear improvement and development in the previous year. Growing its membership and adopting good business practice to ensure continued growth. A club that is friendly, welcoming, and safe to its members with highly skilled and qualified instructors, offering a wide variety of Taekwondo activities.

Award criteria

A club operating from a single venue

All club members are British Taekwondo members

A maximum of members [number to be determined based on membership data]

All coaches are registered on The Hub, with up-to-date background checks

Has a qualified club welfare officer

The club has been a member of British Taekwondo for 3 years or less on 31 December 2024

Unsung Hero

Award Description

An award to recognise a unique contribution to the sport in any voluntary capacity. This person shows genuine dedication and commitment to the sport and seen as a role model by their peers. They don’t seek recognition or status through their activities but dedicate themselves to creating opportunities for others.

Award Criteria

– Must be an individual instructor or regular member of British Taekwondo (not a club)

– Must be a volunteer (not a professional instructor or club operator)

– Must not have received a British Taekwondo Award in the past.

Diversity and inclusion champion

Award description

An individual or club that has identified people within their community who are underserved by sport and looked to connect them with Taekwondo. They understand the positive impact of sport on people and have ensured that Taekwondo is a sport that can cater to people of different abilities and background. This person or club has taken a proactive approach to equity, equality, diversity and inclusion, going the extra mile to ensure people can be welcome into Taekwondo.

Award criteria

Any role: coach/instructor, official, athlete/participant, volunteer

Young achiever

Award description

An award for a young person who is a leader and role model in the sport, showing a determination for personal development as well as supporting the development of others. This young person embodies the safe, welcoming and positive culture of Taekwondo and will be a key part of the future of the sport.

Award criteria

Nominee maximum age: 21 years old

Any role: coach/instructor, official, athlete/participant, volunteer

Lifetime achievement award

Award description

A special award to recognise a member of British Taekwondo who has dedicated a lifetime of service to the sport. The recipient will have displayed a commitment to the values of British Taekwondo and the tenets of Taekwondo over an extended period and have made a major contribution to the development and progression of the sport.

This award may not be presented every year.

Award criteria

Nominee minimum age: 50 years of age on 31 December 2024

Any role: coach/instructor, official, athlete/participant, volunteer

Athlete of the year

Award description

This award recognises the success of a Taekwondo practitioner in competition during the previous year. This person has shown clearly that they gone the extra mile in pursuit of performing to their best and has done so in a way that demonstrates the British Taekwondo values and the Tenets of Taekwondo.

Award criteria

Nominated by the British Taekwondo Sport Performance and Poomsae Performance Volunteer Technical Departments.

The Presidents Award

Award description

A special award from the President of British Taekwondo, with the recipient selected in recognition of a unique, longstanding or transformational contribution to the sport.

This award may not be presented every year. The British Taekwondo President can select a winner from nominations submitted by British Taekwondo members or may directly select a winner they feel has made a special and unique contribution to Taekwondo in the UK.
