The connection between athlete welfare and the future development of Taekwondo was at the centre of discussions during Master Kambiz Ramzan Ali MBE’s visit to ACE Hospital in Ansan.
Master Ramzan Ali, a British Taekwondo International Poomsae Referee, was welcomed by Dr Jae Hoon Jeong, Chairman of the hospital’s Joint and Spine Center. The visit included a presentation on the hospital’s work in orthopaedics, spinal care, health screening and sports rehabilitation.
The meeting brought together representatives from healthcare, Taekwondo, community sport, tourism and culture to consider how their different areas of expertise could support future international cooperation.
Those attending included Master Jin Oh; Master Kambiz Ramzan Ali MBE; Oh Jin-wook, President of the Korean American Sports Council of Boston; Jung-il Lee, President of the Korea Life Sports Taekwondo Association; Jung-geun Lee, Director of the Korea Tourism Evaluation Research Institute; and Kyung-hwa Kim, a KHER Korean Master Craftsman Award holder.
Supporting safer participation in Taekwondo
Discussion focused on the practical relationship between Taekwondo and sports medicine, particularly injury prevention, rehabilitation, recovery, health management and sports-safety education.
The participants considered how healthcare professionals and Taekwondo organisations could work more closely to support practitioners at every level—from recreational students and older participants to high-performance athletes.
Opportunities were also discussed for educational programmes, international sports exchanges and community-health initiatives linking organisations in South Korea, the United Kingdom and the United States, particularly within the Boston area.

Master Ramzan Ali said: “Taekwondo offers people of all ages an opportunity to improve their physical health, confidence and well-being. As participation grows, it is important that injury prevention, rehabilitation and safe training remain part of its development.
“Today’s meeting allowed us to bring together people from healthcare, sport, tourism and education and consider what practical cooperation might be possible. I was pleased to contribute a British perspective and discuss how these ideas could benefit Taekwondo communities in the UK.”
Jung-il Lee highlighted the importance of developing community Taekwondo alongside appropriate health and safety support: “For Taekwondo to continue growing as an activity that people can enjoy throughout their lives, attention must be given not only to technical development but also to injury prevention, health management, rehabilitation and sports safety.”
Looking beyond competition
The meeting also considered how Taekwondo could contribute to wider cultural, tourism and educational exchanges. Participants discussed the possibility of future projects connecting medical knowledge and community sport with international Taekwondo networks.
No formal agreement was signed during the visit. The meeting was an initial opportunity to exchange ideas and identify areas that may be developed through further discussion.
Master Ramzan Ali thanked Dr Jeong and the ACE Hospital team for their warm reception and informative presentation.
The visit formed part of Master Ramzan Ali’s programme of professional, sporting and cultural engagements in South Korea following the Chuncheon 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships, where he represented Great Britain as a World Taekwondo International Poomsae Referee.
