British Taekwondo is delighted to celebrate the achievement of four new Poomsae International Referees: Grand Master William Crouch, Master Darren Naraine, Siew Kim Lee and Aaron Leith, marking another significant step forward for the development of officials within the British Taekwondo community.
Becoming a Poomsae International Referee requires an enormous level of dedication, preparation and commitment, with officials continually developing their understanding of the discipline, keeping pace with changes to competition rules and interpretation, building experience on the national circuit and preparing themselves for the demands of international officiating.
That commitment was reflected at the 65th World Taekwondo Poomsae International Referee Seminar in Tirana, Albania, where participants from around the world undertook four days of intensive education and assessment as part of World Taekwondo’s International Referee Development Programme.
The programme included detailed work on the latest World Taekwondo Poomsae Competition Rules and Interpretation, theoretical and practical referee training, hands-on work with scoring equipment, followed by written and practical examinations.
For those who dedicate themselves to Poomsae officiating, reaching this level represents years of learning, experience and a willingness to continually improve, with every competition providing another opportunity to develop technical knowledge, judgement and confidence as an official.
The achievement of Grand Master William Crouch, Master Darren Naraine, Siew Kim Lee and Aaron Leith therefore represents an important milestone not only for each individual, but also for British Taekwondo’s Poomsae Referee Department and the wider community of officials supporting our Martial Art.
Their progression demonstrates the strength of the development pathway available within British Taekwondo, where referees can build their experience at national events, continue their education and work towards opportunities on the international stage. The continued development of officials is fundamental to the growth of Poomsae, ensuring that British Taekwondo has knowledgeable, experienced and highly prepared referees capable of operating at the highest levels of competition.
The success of our new International Referees provides an important example for the next generation of officials across British Taekwondo. Their journeys show what can be achieved through commitment to learning, gaining experience and taking every opportunity to develop, while also strengthening the depth and quality of officiating available within the British Taekwondo community.
Congratulations to Grand Master William Crouch, Master Darren Naraine, Siew Kim Lee and Aaron Leith on this outstanding achievement, we look forward to seeing you all represent British Taekwondo on the international stage in the future.
