Autism Working Group

British Taekwondo is looking for enthusiastic, proactive volunteers to become part of the new Autism Working Group

The group will be working together to ensure that the highest standards of inclusivity are being implemented and maintained across the organisation, and will play an important part in discussing topics and areas of focus and development across the country.

There will be four meetings a year for committee members, with three online, and one in person in Manchester, where key topics will be discussed, and any actions decided upon.

The positions are open to anyone, whether you are a British Taekwondo member or not. Athletes, coaches, staff members are encouraged to be involved, as well as anyone interested in, or has experience, with autism to help with adaptations to our clubs, as well as resource packs for coaches and clubs.

Upon the formation of the Autism Working Group, British Taekwondo Disability Officer Keira Forsythe said: “We often talk about Taekwondo as a discipline of respect, perseverance, and self-improvement. These values are deeply connected to inclusion –  and we have a responsibility to ensure they extend to every corner of our community.

“That’s why the formation of the autism working group is such an exciting step forward for British Taekwondo. It represents a commitment to understanding and inclusion that goes beyond words and into action.”

“Creating a more autism-friendly environment will strengthen our sport, bringing in new perspectives and talents that enrich our community. Whether you have experience with autism, or simply want to be part of meaningful change, we welcome you to get involved. Let’s make Taekwondo a place where every person – regardless of how they think or process the world – feels valued and included.”

We are continuing to strive to make Taekwondo as accessible to anyone who wants to get it involved, and we want to keep it that way going forward, with everyone at British Taekwondo responsible for being aware and proactive regarding inclusivity in sessions, clubs and competitions.

You have until the 22nd June to register your interest in joining the Autism Working Group, and you can do so by contacting Keira at disability@britishtaekwondo.org
