Details of the upgrade to the Dan Grading Process.

British Taekwondo is streamlining and improving the efficiency of the service to hosts and participants of Regional Dan promotion tests.

As part of the MOU agreement with Kukkiwon, the World certification body for the Martial Art, we are further embedding a UK Kukkiwon Office administration function within the British Taekwondo office in Manchester, with dedicated staff to manage the sanctioning, certificate application, finance process and general enquiries around gradings much more efficiently.

We are contacting existing hosts and lead examiners now with all the information to use the new system.

Initially, this is revamped and simpler forms and a centralised process, where we will be tracking the progress of all gradings and certificate orders to provide a better service.

This will be quickly followed by a “one stop shop” website for the UK Kukkiwon Office that will automate these processes further.

We ask for the support and patience of our family of Dan grading hosts and examiners during this transition.

It is important to understand that there are no fundamental changes to the rules around hosting Regional Dan gradings or sitting on panels.

These, and the fees – are the same as those announced in 2023.

This is purely an improvement in the way we operate.

We will also be asking for copies of examiner certificates, to create registers that we can publish so that existing hosts and prospective hosts can see who is qualified and potentially available to sit on panels.

This will also help us streamline the process further, once an examiner is on the list – we won’t have to ask for qualification proof or spend time checking every time a sanction request comes in, resulting in a more quicker approval system.

We have consulted on this new system and tested it with some existing hosts and examiners so hope you see the improvements and direction of travel as we digitise things even further.

We have big plans for the UK Kukkiwon Office in the next 12 months, with further High Dan promotion test opportunities, a focus on Martial Art seminars, plus a visit by Kukkiwon and the World Taekwondo Academy from Korea to conduct a series of education opportunities and a Special Promotion Test for those with misaligned certification.
