The 1st World Demonstration Team Championships were recently held in Chuncheon, Korea.
The British Taekwondo Poomsae Referee Department was delighted to have Grand Master David Bailey invited to attend the event as a referee and be there at the start of a really exciting new format for Taekwondo competitions.
The 1st World Demonstration Team Championships competition had two disciplines, Team Performance and Team Freestyle. Team Performance is a traditional style demo in dobok, with self defence, breaking etc. Team Freestyle includes the same elements, but with costumes and props, and includes more marks for artistry and expression. Both disciplines were extremely demanding requiring top quality Taekwondo and Gymnastics skills.
Grand Master Bailey said “Team Demo is definitely something for the future. The performances were spectacular and certainly provide the most entertainment for spectators.”
British Taekwondo is delighted that GM Bailey was selected to referee both finals, and proud that he was given a Best Referee Certificate by the WT President Chungwon Choue.
The World Demonstration Team Championships were part of the Gangwon·Chuncheon World Taekwondo Cultural Festival 2023.
The first ever Gangwon·Chuncheon World Taekwondo Cultural Festival was held from the 18th to the 20th August and featured 15,000 athletes, officials and tourists from around 60 nations taking part across four premier events celebrating the best of Taekwondo.
