Meet British Taekwondo members, the Smyth family.
It’s brilliant hearing stories from our members and the reasons why they do Taekwondo. In this feature we find out more about the Smyth family who are members of Central Taekwondo Academy in Falkirk.
Colin Smyth, his wife Paula, daughter Katie and son Andrew took up Taekwondo as it was a sport they could all do together as a family. They enjoy attending training, gradings and competitions and hope they can inspire others to give Taekwondo a go too.
Colin explained “We started Taekwondo as it was something we could do together as a family. We didn’t have any real expectations to begin with, but quickly fell in love with it and our club at Central Taekwondo Academy. Through the club we have made friendships that will last a lifetime.”
“We stuck at the training, and I am now a 1st Dan black belt, Paula is a 2nd Dan black belt and going for 3rd Dan in October. Katie is a 1st Dan black belt and going for 2nd in October, and Andrew is a 2nd Dan black belt.”
“Paula and Katie represent Team Scotland at Poomsae too. We want to thank our instructor Grand Master David Bailey. Taekwondo and its tenets have definitely confirmed to us as a family that perseverance really does pay off.”
Central Taekwondo Scotland is celebrating 30 years in 2023. For more information about the club and how you can begin your Taekwondo journey, visit the Central Taekwondo Academy website.
