Dear British Taekwondo instructors, coaches and members

We wanted to let our community know that our Chief Executive Officer, Ian Leafe, is stepping down at the end of this year.

Ian has been an integral part of our Martial Art and Olympic / Paralympic family for decades, and more recently has been known to many of you in leadership roles and as our CEO for the past 6 years.

Previously, Ian had a career in major events with GB Taekwondo including as event director of the ground breaking World Taekwondo Championships in Manchester 2019, plus dozens of other successful events that are too many to mention. Ian was also a founding director of GB Taekwondo, a role he currently holds and will also step down from at Christmas.

He is part of the close knit Taekwondo community, as a Martial Artist and 8th Dan Grand Master in his own right, as an “S” Class International Kyorugi referee to Olympic Games level, and has been involved in the World Taekwondo, European Taekwondo Union and Kukkiwon family for many years.

Ian decided at the beginning of this year, to take a break from work, before considering what the future holds and we all wish him well and thank him for his contribution and dedication.

As these things take time to sort through, at our recent June board meeting, the time came to put the wheels in motion to find a replacement, that ensures an orderly transition for our organisation, and this is why we are announcing this now.

We will start the process of recruitment in the coming weeks and in the meantime, Ian will continue to work on board priorities with the staff team and you, our membership family.
