Master Kambiz Ramzan Ali MBE continued his programme of cultural engagements in South Korea by presenting official Letters of Commendation to veteran Korean comedian and businessman Cho Jung-hyun.
The letters, issued by Councillor Viv Poskitt, Mayor of Harrogate, and Tom Gordon MP, Member of Parliament for Harrogate and Knaresborough, recognised Chairman Cho’s longstanding contribution to Korean broadcasting, popular culture and community service.
Chairman Cho has entertained the Korean public throughout a distinguished career and now serves as Chairman of Jung-hyun Wedding Hall Co., Ltd. His commendations also acknowledged his work in developing quality wedding and hospitality services while continuing to support charitable and community initiatives.
Master Ramzan Ali personally presented the letters on behalf of Harrogate’s civic representatives.
As a member of the European Taekwondo Union Culture and Heritage Committee, Master Ramzan Ali is committed to promoting Taekwondo’s cultural values and using the relationships created through the sport to encourage greater understanding between European countries, South Korea and the wider international community.
He said: “Chairman Cho Jung-hyun has brought laughter and happiness to people for many years while continuing to support his community. It was a pleasure to present these special commendations from the Mayor of Harrogate and Tom Gordon MP.
“Taekwondo has given me the opportunity to build friendships far beyond competition. As a member of the European Taekwondo Union Culture and Heritage Committee, I believe we should use these connections to promote cultural understanding, shared heritage and positive relationships between communities and countries.”
The presentation was attended by veteran comedian Ji Young-ok; Oh Jin-wook, President of the Korean American Sports Council of Boston; and Professor Jung-il Lee of Dongbang Culture Graduate University.
Following the ceremony, the guests discussed how sport, popular culture, education, welfare and community service could contribute to stronger international relationships between South Korea, the United Kingdom, other European countries and the United States.
The conversation included possible cultural programmes, community projects and international exchanges that could bring together artists, sports leaders, academics and charitable organisations. Particular attention was given to initiatives supporting vulnerable and underserved members of society.
Chairman Cho thanked the Mayor of Harrogate and Tom Gordon MP for the recognition and said he would continue working to bring happiness to the public, develop welcoming cultural spaces and support meaningful community service in Korea and internationally.
Alongside representing Great Britain as a World Taekwondo International Poomsae Referee, Master Ramzan Ali has used the relationships developed through Taekwondo to connect Harrogate, the wider United Kingdom and Europe with Korean leaders in sport, education, healthcare, tourism and the arts.
Rather than focusing on a formal agreement, the occasion celebrated service to the community and opened a conversation about how trusted personal relationships can grow into positive international cooperation.
