Report from the recent Martial Arts Seminar on Practical Self Defence in Birmingham.

British Taekwondo held a 6-hour Martial Arts Seminar on Self Defence at the University of Birmingham (Ki Taekwondo Birmingham University) on Saturday 2nd July. Almost 70 members from clubs across the UK, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man attended the session.

The Martial Arts Seminar on Practical Self Defence covered a wide-range of topics – some of which were new to attendees, some were refreshers and other aspects were eye-opening views, demonstrations and practical activities.

Topics covered in the seminar included:
– Legal aspects of self defence
– Situational awareness
– Situational de-escalation
– Criminal psychology
– Martial arts science
– Pressure points
– Technique enhancements
– Poomsae hidden application techniques
– Realistic weapons defence

Instructors at the event included Master Paul Jones, 6th Dan; Master Steve Blomeley, 6th Dan; Master Peter Holmes, an external guest instructor and 6th Dan Karate Jitsu Dragon Society, 3rd Dan Tang Soo Do, Martial Arts Hall of Fame; and Master Steve Lloyd, 6th Dan, 5th Dan Kickboxing.
