Why Taekwondo?

Taekwondo is more than just a martial art – it’s a powerful tool for building confidence, discipline, and focus in students of all ages. By bringing Taekwondo into schools, we create a dynamic environment where physical fitness meets character development, helping students thrive both in and out of the classroom. Watch the video below to find out more…

Developing Essential Life Skills

What makes Taekwondo distinct from many other martial arts explicit personal development is within it. The tenets of Taekwondo are the foundation of this: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit. These tenets are taught in the classroom sessions that support the physical activity sessions and this holistic approach is at the core of the programme.

We emphasise that Taekwondo is much more than just learning to kick, block, strike and get fitter and stronger – although those are great outcomes! The character and personal development, based around the tenets, builds essential life skills children can use both in the session and beyond in every day school and home life.

The Tenets of Taekwondo

1 2

The first tenet is to show courtesy – we model this and the children learn the importance of politeness and respect for others, behaving in a well-mannered and civil fashion.

2 3

To do the right thing even when no-one is watching. We develop this in the children so they can understand and model good character, honestly, prudence, and decency, and understand about behaving ethically and morally.

3 3

This tenet is what many successful people credit as the core reason they succeed; they didn’t give up. The children will be taught the importance of purposefully pursuing a course of action despite of difficulty, resistance, or discouragement.

4 3

This is critical in martial arts but is obviously a transferable skill. To be able to manage your emotions and your actions is so important for a successful and happy life. We emphasize the value of managing your emotions, desires, and impulses and exercising control in expression.

5 3

The final tenet is Indomitable Spirit. The children will learn that if you have the courage and resolve that you can create a spirit that can’t be broken or conquered – the strength of spirit that comes from knowing yourself and realizing your purpose.
