The British Taekwondo Annual Awards 2024
In 2024 the British Taekwondo Annual Awards will feature some big changes.
What is changing?
A new set of Awards has been launched where nominations will be made by the British Taekwondo membership. Eight new award categories will recognise British Taekwondo members who have made contributions to Taekwondo and their communities, and have lived out the values of British Taekwondo.
The British Taekwondo volunteer technical department awards will also be presented at the Annual Awards ceremony.
Why has British Taekwondo made these changes?
We know that there are many dedicated people doing great work in Taekwondo who deserve to be recognised for their achievements. Some of those people gain recognition through the British Taekwondo volunteer technical departments.
But, there are people contributing in different areas that British Taekwondo wants to ensure had the opportunity to be recognised by their peers and British Taekwondo for their efforts. The new award categories mean that you, the members of British Taekwondo, get to have a say in who you think has earned special recognition.
When is this all happening?
The British Taekwondo Annual Awards is taking place at The Lowry, in Salford Quays on Saturday 23rd of November 2024. The function will start from approximately 6pm.
The nominations period for the public award categories will open on Friday 20th of September 2024.
The nominations period will close on Friday 1st of November.
The finalists in each award category will be contacted in mid-November and invited to the Annual Awards ceremony, with the winners announced on the day at the Annual Awards.

Who can win an award, and who can nominate people for awards?
Every British Taekwondo regular member and instructor can make one nomination in each Award category. Some Awards do have specific criteria, such as age or membership type that need to be met in order to be nominated for them. For example, only a Club can be nominated for the ‘Club of the Year Award’.
If you don’t have a British Taekwondo membership, you can’t submit a nomination, or be nominated for an Award. Any British Taekwondo members who are suspended, under investigate, engaged in a complaint process or otherwise not in good standing with the British Taekwondo may not make or receive a nomination.
How do the winners get chosen?
There is a two-step process for the new Award categories:
Step 1: Validation and shortlisting
Step 2: Review Panel
In Step 1, every nomination will be validated by British Taekwondo to ensure the basic criteria have been met by both the nominator and the nominee, plus any specific Award criteria. British Taekwondo will then shortlist up to six nominations per Award category and send these nominations to the review panel.
In Step 2, the Review Panel will further shortlist to three potential winners in each Award category. The Review Panel will then vote to determine the winner of each Award. The winners will be announced at the Annual Awards ceremony.
The Review Panel will comprise of five people:
The confirmed panelists are:
Sarah Stevenson, British Taekwondo President
Shaun Gagie, British Taekwondo Independent Non-Executive Director (Chair)
Sophie Mahar, Community Integrated Care
The two remaining panelists will be confirmed shortly.
