Dear British Taekwondo family,
It is a privilege to introduce myself as the new CEO of British Taekwondo. Stepping into this role, I am energised by the passion, commitment and spirit that defines our community.
British Taekwondo has strong foundations, built by years of dedication from volunteers, staff, instructors, athletes and leaders who all help our clubs flourish, and my goal is to honour that legacy while helping us move confidently into the future.
Having attended the AGM and Annual Awards event last month, I have already had the chance to speak to members of the British Taekwondo community. I was left inspired by hearing their stories, motivated to continue growing and developing Taekwondo across the UK, and to keep the community thriving.
I look forward to seeing and meeting a lot more of you over the weeks and months to come, as well as engaging with those who attend our Instructor Summit in Birmingham in February 2026. Community engagement is vital in developing the British Taekwondo landscape, and I endeavour to continue to build those relationships over time.
Building strong relationships with our clubs, instructors, athletes, and volunteers is absolutely central to growing together as a community. When we communicate openly, share ideas, and work in genuine partnership, we create alignment, not just in what we do, but in why we do it.
By listening closely to the people who deliver Taekwondo every day, we can better understand their needs, challenges, and ambitions, and ensure our national strategy truly reflects the realities of our community.
A clear vision for the future
As the National Governing Body, British Taekwondo will continue to work with our clubs to enhance the member experience day-to-day, and support growth in participation at every level; grassroots, development pathways, and performance.
Through a membership offer that continues to add real value for clubs and individuals, growing coach education pathway, robust safeguarding framework and thriving national championships, we already have many strong systems in place. As we move forward, we will continue to work on all these areas, and ensure we serve our community so that every club, instructor and member feels supported, understood, and empowered to succeed.
British Taekwondo is a special community with dedicated volunteers, successful performance programmes, passionate clubs, and committed staff who care deeply about the Martial Art sport. That is why I want to support our clubs and instructors in making our processes as simple as possible, because when we remove barriers and offer clear guidance, we strengthen the relationship and connection at the heart of British Taekwondo.
Connection, communication, and community engagement
A healthy organisation listens to its people. Over the coming weeks and months, I will be engaging directly with clubs, instructors, referees, and members across the UK. I will be listening carefully to your experiences, the challenges you face, the successes you celebrate, and the support you need.
Coaches, parents, volunteers, referees and young people all have a voice within British Taekwondo. I will ensure those voices are heard, and they help to shape the decisions we make as the National Governing Body in the UK.
The British Taekwondo community is diverse and powerful, and every individual deserves equal support, visibility, and opportunity. My commitment is to ensure that British Taekwondo strengthens its inclusive culture, widens access, and supports every member in their development, whether that is performance-focused, participation-led, or personal.
Safeguarding, in particular, remains a non-negotiable priority. We must meet the highest standards of safety and wellbeing across all clubs and events. The requirement for every club to have an independent Club Welfare Officer by January 1st 2026 is central to this.
We know this is a significant step, and British Taekwondo is on hand to guide clubs through every step of the process, from accessing the required training to uploading the correct documents on My Club Hub. We will continue to provide clear instructions, resources, and direct support to ensure every club is fully compliant and confident in their duties to ensure British Taekwondo clubs are a safe and accessible to all.
Together, we can build an environment where every member feels protected, heard, and valued.
Building trust, confidence, and long-term growth
Throughout my career in leadership roles across the sports sector, I have established significant experience in strategic development and operational transformation. More importantly, I bring a commitment to being approachable, visible, and collaborative.
My goal is simple: to serve this community with integrity, professionalism, and a genuine passion for helping British Taekwondo fulfil its potential.
I will work closely with our Board, staff teams, and all of you to strengthen our systems, elevate our standards, and build sustainable growth, not just for the next year, but for the next decade and beyond.
British Taekwondo has extraordinary potential. Together, with shared purpose and collective ambition, we can achieve a future defined by excellence, inclusivity, and opportunity for all.
Thank you for welcoming me into this role. I look forward to meeting many of you very soon, and to building this future together.
