British Taekwondo is delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Adamsons as Technical Delegate and Joanne Leach-Flanagan as Chief Referee for the 2026 British Taekwondo National Kyorugi Championships, taking place at the Manchester Velodrome on the 3rd and 4th October.
These appointments mark an important step in ensuring that this flagship event is delivered to the highest possible standard, with both Peter and Jo bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles.
Peter Adamsons: Technical Delegate
Peter Adamsons (second from left) has been appointed as Technical Delegate for the 2026 National Kyorugi Championships, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to one of the most important leadership roles within British Taekwondo’s flagship domestic competition.
As the founder and Head Instructor of Scorpion Taekwondo, Master Adamsons has dedicated decades to the development of athletes, coaches and clubs across the UK. One of British Taekwondo’s longest-standing members, he has built a reputation for professionalism, integrity and an unwavering commitment to raising standards both on and off the competition floor.
A highly respected figure within the British Taekwondo community, Peter combines extensive experience as a competitor, coach, instructor and event organiser, with experience as a coach with GB Taekwondo for nine years. As well as that, the Yorkshireman was a National Technical Official for the London Olympics in 2012, a World Taekwondo Technical Delegate, and was recently appointed as a Member of the European Taekwondo Union Development Committee.
His deep understanding of Kyorugi competition, athlete development and event delivery provides him with a unique perspective on the requirements of hosting a successful National Championship.
As Technical Delegate, he will play an important role in ensuring first class technical delivery of the competition at the 2026 national championships. His leadership will help provide confidence to coaches, officials and athletes that the competition will provide them with the platform to deliver their best performances.
Jo Leach-Flanagan: Chief Referee
Joanne Leach-Flanagan has been appointed as Chief Referee for the 2026 National Kyorugi Championships. Jo is a distinguished figure within British Taekwondo officiating, and currently serves as Operations Manager and Interim Chair of the Kyorugi Referee Department, playing a pivotal role in the development, education and management of referees across the country.
As well as being a proud member of WTA All Stars, Jo has also been at the forefront of supporting high-quality domestic competitions through her role as a member of the referee department and as one of the most active Chief Referees in the UK.
As Chief Referee for the 2026 National Championships Jo will lead the officiating team and ensure the highest calibre of referees deliver the best possible application of the rules for every round and match.
