This year, Ultimate Taekwondo is proudly celebrating its 30th anniversary, marking three decades of dedication, achievement and community impact within the sport.
Founded in 1996 by Olympian Kathy Hook, Ultimate Taekwondo has produced numerous national and international champions, with athletes securing medals and titles at every level of competition.
Beyond competitive success, the club has played an important role in developing members across all areas of the sport, with former and current students progressing to become coaches, referees and judges. Today, Ultimate Taekwondo continues to thrive through its clubs in Doncaster, Blackpool and Manchester, providing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy and excel in taekwondo.
To mark the club’s milestone anniversary, a group of dedicated members are taking on an extraordinary fundraising challenge.
One of the club’s longest-serving athletes, Ryan “Raz” Gomersall, recently came out of retirement and has rediscovered his passion for taekwondo. Now, with his two children also training at the club, Raz was inspired to give something back and proposed a unique challenge.
Joined by fellow club members Paul Inwood, Shaz Wood, Bryonie Noble, Lisa Rengasamy and Martin Hanson, the team will undertake a demanding walk of approximately 52 miles from the GB Taekwondo Centre in Manchester to Ultimate Taekwondo’s home venue, The Den, in Armthorpe, Doncaster.
The group will set off from Manchester at 4:00pm on Saturday 18th July and hope to arrive in Doncaster between 11:00am and 1:00pm on Sunday 19th July. The route will take them across the Pennines via the A628 and A616, with an estimated walking time of 19–20 hours.
Funds raised through the challenge will help Ultimate Taekwondo continue investing in high-quality training and competition equipment, ensuring that current and future students have the best possible environment in which to develop and succeed.
We wish Ryan, Paul, Shaz, Bryonie, Lisa and Martin the very best of luck as they take on their journey across the Pennines, and we look forward to following their progress. Their commitment, determination and passion for the sport are a wonderful reflection of the values of taekwondo and the strong community spirit that has helped Ultimate Taekwondo thrive for three decades.
