UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) have updated their guidance relating to Exacerbation of Asthma Therapeutic Use Exemption.
The guidance document (available here) sets out the medical evidence required to support TUE applications to treat an acute asthma exacerbation, and has been updated in consultation with respiratory experts and UKAD’s TUE Committee.
The revised version expands on the clinical information necessary for an application to be considered and now includes a pre-application checklist to aid doctors in collating the required medical evidence prior to prescribing treatment.
A dedicated webpage and video tutorial, available here, provides information on the anti-doping status of asthma inhalers, as well as advice on how to adhere to the anti-doping regulations whilst managing asthma. You can also see an infographic about the new guidance below.
All of the above resources have been uploaded to the special topics page of the Medicine and TUE Hub on UKAD’s website, available here.
