Minimum First Aid Requirements

We have received numerous enquiries recently about which First Aid course you should attend and we wanted to clarify the following.  First Aid cover must be provided at the venue you are using, in plain English this means that British Taekwondo does not insist you have to be first aid trained – if you are using a local authority venue, first aid will be provided by the venue.  However if you are the only user of a building (i.e. a village hall or community centre) you are responsible for providing the first aid cover and you should make enquiries about getting a First Aid certificate.  Regardless of the provider, the minimum amount of training should include:

  • what to do in an emergency;
  • how to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in accordance with current Resuscitation Council guidelines;
  • first aid for the unconscious casualty;
  • first aid for the wounded or bleeding.

Advice about Concussion

All concussions must be taken seriously to safeguard the health and welfare of our members and participants. Failing to do so can have serious consequences including, in extremely rare cases, death.
These guidelines are designed for professionals working in the education sector and, while they are aimed at school-aged children, can also be applied to over 18s in the absence of other advice.
