Becoming a Level 2 Coach with British Taekwondo can help you to realise your full potential as a coach.

Coaching will soon become regulated by way of a nationally approved licencing scheme, led by Sport England, UK Sport and CIMSPA. British Taekwondo believes this will help raise standards within clubs, better placing them to be a high quality provider of activity within its community.

By completing this award, you will be able to:

  • Deliver sessions independently within a British Taekwondo club.
  • Coach at local and national events without supervision.
  • Access British Taekwondo coach membership and indemnity insurances.
  • Access the UK Coaching platform for up-to-date eLearning modules.
  • Apply to take the next level – British Taekwondo Level 3 Coach Qualification.
  • The British Taekwondo team will be providing information and support to members to get candidates through the award.

We take our responsibilities seriously when it comes to having correct processes and procedures in place. Having a Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Taekwondo gives you the opportunity to have a nationally recognised qualification that meets all required professional and coach standards.

At £299, our Level 2 course is extremely good value. Other sports typically charge £400-£600 for theirs.

A lot of the cost is taken up with registration fees with the awarding body, purchasing licences for the eLearning modules and tutor costs.

As a not-for-profit organisation, the surplus is re-invested into the education system in order to provide ongoing opportunities for learning and self-development.

The landscape of coaching has changed a lot over the last decade. British Taekwondo, like all other sports governing bodies, are increasingly challenged to ensure activities are regulated and subject to professional and coaching standards. It will be the case soon that coaches will be required to be on a national register (requiring a recognised qualification) in order to practice.

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) are leading on this massive national scheme. It is anticipated that the national register will come into effect in 2025.

Our Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Taekwondo is regulated by 1st4Sport (the awarding body) and includes all required standards set by CIMSPA.

This fantastic education opportunity contains a mixture of online, tutor led, and mentor supported practical learning for developing inspirational coaches, and includes:

  • Understanding your role
  • Develop coaching practice
  • Understand your participants
  • Develop positive relationships
  • Develop coaching environment
  • Protect self and others
  • Planning

  • Evaluation

The qualification should take approximately six months to complete, made up of the following activities:

  • Six eLearning modules (c. 12 hours).
  • Review and implementation of best practice for teaching the combat sport and Poomsae via a Brilliant Basics video, featuring top coaches and athletes.
  • Plan, Deliver and Reflect on six linked and progressive sessions with a Mentor signing them off and giving feedback.
  • Completion of a portfolio of evidence.
  • Producing a 20 minute video showing your coaching in action – five minute warm up, 10 minutes of technical skill development and five minutes of post-session feedback with your students.

You need to attend all the tutor led sessions, achieve the six eLearning modules, complete the portfolio and produce a 20-minute video of you in action.

Once you have delivered the required six sessions, you submit your evidence (portfolio and video only) to your named assessor. They will evaluate these and then arrange a video call with you to talk through.

At the moment, this is not possible due to costs associated with having a mapping tool to validate APL.

It should be noted that although many areas of study from higher education crossover with our Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Taekwondo, the application and contextualisation of such knowledge in specifically focussed on what it looks like in real terms to our sport.
