🥋 St. Augustine’s Embeds Taekwondo into Curriculum Following Kick for Change Success

Nearly two years after first partnering with British Taekwondo through the Kick for Change programme, St. Augustine’s Primary School has officially embedded Taekwondo into its Year 3 curriculum – demonstrating the long-term educational impact of sport-led legacy initiatives.

Originally introduced to Taekwondo in 2023 as part of the build-up to the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Finals in Manchester, St. Augustine’s quickly recognised the benefits of the martial art in supporting student wellbeing, focus, and behaviour. The school continued to deliver sessions through the Kick for Change programme, supported by qualified British Taekwondo instructors.

“It has been a privilege to work with Sophie, Leyla and the team at British Taekwondo. My children have been given fantastic opportunities and a chance to have a go at a sport they would never have encountered previously.” – Headteacher, St. Augustine’s

From One-Off Event to Core Curriculum

Since December 2023, the school has maintained weekly Taekwondo sessions for different year groups, focusing on both technique and the core values of the sport: respect, discipline, perseverance, and self-control. Now, all Year 3 pupils take part in a structured programme during curriculum time, working toward achieving their first coloured belt by the end of the school year.

A Model for Other Schools

The success at St. Augustine’s highlights the potential of Kick for Change to deliver long-term, embedded impact across the education sector. British Taekwondo is now working with additional schools across the UK to replicate this model.

“We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved at St. Augustine’s. They’ve set a fantastic example of how sport can be integrated meaningfully into the school curriculum – and we’re excited to support other schools on the same journey.” – Sophie Jameson, Development Manager
