Details of British Taekwondo’s Major Event Legacy programme in Manchester.
As part of British Taekwondo’s Major Event Legacy, the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final 2023 saw over 750 school children and staff across Manchester invited to attend the event at the Manchester Regional Arena on Friday 1st December.
As part of the event package the schools received, they were introduced to the sport through a 4-week block of sessions delivered pre-event by some of our Manchester Club Instructors. This was then followed by attendance at the Manchester 2023 World Taekwondo Grand Prix Finals where they were able to watch the competition, meet some of the GB athletes and take part in various engagement activities within our Event Village.
With the dust now settling on an amazing event here in Manchester, the schools are now midway through completing their 6-week development block which will see them equipped with the skills to take part in their first Taekwondo grading in the Spring.
Our Manchester Development Officer, Sophie Jameson, has praised the enthusiasm of each school at the Grand Prix “The school children and staff have been incredible in their excitement, energy, and support throughout this programme. For most of these children, they will have been experiencing Taekwondo for the first time both through the sessions and at the event itself.”
Sophie added “For us as an organisation, these events give us the chance to offer amazing opportunities for the city of Manchester and it’s been a credit to the community to see how engaged they have become. Off the back of this event and the school programme, we are supporting coaches to set up new clubs across the city to ensure Taekwondo becomes more accessible to all and we hope to share some inspiring stories in the coming weeks and months from these projects.”
British Taekwondo would like to thank all the schools and groups involved in this programme, MCRactive and Sport England for their continued support, and with a special mention to our coaches Jason Mayoh (JM Taekwondo) and Leyla Palser (C4all Taekwondo) for inspiring a new generation of Taekwondo superstars!
