How to use your local presence to promote your club in the lead up to Paris 2024

The Olympic and Paralympic Games present an excellent opportunity for members to tap into the excitement of the summer of sport, promote their clubs and attract new members to give Taekwondo a try.

Reaching out to your local community is a great way to showcase what Taekwondo is all about. From hosting taster sessions to organising community events, there’s so much you can do to promote your club and reach new members!

Here’s some top tips of what you can do to promote your club in the lead up to Paris 2024:

Get involved in community activities in your local area

People will be searching for Taekwondo clubs near them during the Games.

Check out what’s going on in your local area to promote your club. Are there any community events where your club can hold a demo? Are there any noticeboards in community hubs to add club flyers to?

Offer 3 free trial sessions

For the months of July, August and September British Taekwondo is offering prospective members three free trial sessions before they join the club. We hope this will give potential new members a chance to give Taekwondo a go, and also find out more about your club and how they can get involved following the Games.

Promote your club through local media

Are there opportunities for your club to get some local publicity, perhaps in the local newspapers, on the radio, or TV? Do you have plans for something newsworthy to take place, or has a member of your club got a connection to the Games they can share?

Local and regional media may be the place to tell the story, and it’ll help show people your club is open to new members to give Taekwondo a go.

Understand your audience & tell them all about Taekwondo

While Taekwondo is an activity for all, not everyone will be comfortable stepping foot into your Taekwondo club for the first time.

Do you showcase what training at your club is like? Do you offer taster sessions? Is your club set-up to involve specific groups to ease them into Taekwondo?

Help those with disabilities & additional needs

At British Taekwondo, we are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in everything we do. And work to ensure Taekwondo is accessible and open to all.

Host an open night

This could be a great way to invite people to come along to your club on a day or evening outside of your normal schedule to see all that Taekwondo offers, you could combine this with a watch party to cheer on the GB Taekwondo athletes in action.

Decorate your dojang

Hang up the Team GB and Paralympics GB bunting, break out some Union Jack flags and gather your club’s members for photos and videos during the Games to show that you’re open for business and to show people not already involved what your club venue looks like.

Why not host watch parties for Taekwondo at the Games? This could offer a great way for people in your local area to learn about your club environment before training!

Get Set has organised the Path to Paris, where sports clubs, schools, community groups and families can set up teams for children to take part – and everyone can join in with the fun alongside them, completely for free!
