The Midlands Open Taekwondo Championships is taking place in Coventry on Saturday 25th March.

Five Lions Taekwondo Academy is organising the Midlands Open Taekwondo Championships in Coventry on Saturday 25th March. The open championships is a silver level event sanctioned by British Taekwondo and is the first competition to take place in the midlands for over 20 years.

The club is pleased to announce the event and invites entries from athletes across the British Taekwondo community.

The Midlands Open Taekwondo Championships will be held at the Sports and Wellness Hub, University of Warwick, Cryfield Village, Leighfield Road, Coventry CV4 7EU on Saturday 25th March 2023. The venue is very accessible, with easy connections to motorways, and Birmingham International Airport only 20 mins away.

The organisers are expecting a large field of competitors, with more than 600 athletes in attendance, and the aim to make the event the largest event outside of the National Championships.

Athletes will be competing for Gold, Silver, and two Bronze medals in individual weight classes. There will also be cash prizes for the first, second and third placed teams at the event.

Master Sediqi of Five Lions Taekwondo Academy said, “We hope that the Midlands Open Taekwondo Championships is the first of many in the area. It’s been a long time since the last event took place here and we want to put on a superb event for the hundreds of athletes, their coaches, their supporters, and families.”

“We are looking forward to welcoming a wide range of athletes from across the country to allow competition between people who may not meet each other outside of the National Championships. It’s been brilliant to receive interest from international athletes too.”

He added “We want everyone to have a positive experience and we aim to push the quality of events through the roof with extra activities available on the day from mountain climbing to squash to swimming, thus ensuring that this isn’t just a battle for a medal but a fun day out for all.”

The event pack can be found here. Entries to the event can be made via MA-Reg.
