Students visit the National Taekwondo Centre in Manchester.
60 students from Ladybarn Primary School in Withington, Manchester recently visited the National Taekwondo Centre in Manchester as part of their ongoing Taekwondo training.
Taekwondo was introduced into the curriculum at Ladybarn Primary School by Head Teacher and 4th Dan British Taekwondo Coach Ian Caldwell in 2019.
Ian and the school like to use the visits to help motivate and inspire the students ahead of their first grading, where they will all hope to achieve their yellow belts.
Ian said “It was such a brilliant experience for the kids to get to visit the National Taekwondo Centre and see all the athletes train.
A huge thanks to Lutalo Muhammad, Bianca Walkden and Joe Lane for giving up their time to answer some of the kids questions and to Bradly Sinden for making one little white belts day!
The children were all desperate to train when they got back to school and ‘do some kicks like’ Lutalo, Bradley, Bianca and Joe.
We’re looking forward to bringing the school to see the team at the European Taekwondo Championships in the summer.”
GB Taekwondo kindly hosted the visit, which included a tour of the facility, including the high-performance gym, witnessing the GB athletes in full-swing during training and doing some Q&A sessions with GB athletes: Lutalo Muhammad (2016 Olympic Silver Medallist and 2012 Olympic Bronze Medallist), Bianca Walkden (2020 Olympic Bronze Medallist, 2019, 2017 & 2015 World Champion) and Bradly Sinden (2020 Olympic Silver Medallist and 2019 World Champion).
British Taekwondo would like to thank GB Taekwondo, all the GB athletes, Ian Caldwell and the other Ladybarn Primary School teachers and the Ladybarn students, who helped make it a fantastic day for everyone.
