Details of Disclosure Criminal Record Checks.
British Taekwondo is committed to providing the safest possible environment for the welfare of Children and Adults at Risk and has a duty to safeguard and protect all participants from harm.
Criminal Record Checks help us to provide that protection by allowing us to check that an individual has not been barred from working with children and/or adults.
You can find out more on this page in the Safeguarding section of the website.
Please note:
- During the DBS process, some checks are held up at Stage 4 (Local Police Force) which can delay the return of your certificate. Various factors contribute to this – the time of year, the number of police forces involved or an increased volume in potential matches for example
- Please allow sufficient time to receive your DBS certificate. We advise to apply at least one month prior to the expiry of your certificate. If you are applying for DBS check for the first time, please ensure that you have plenty of time to complete the process ahead of any coaching, competition, or other activities for which a DBS is required.
- Any DBS checks that have been at Stage 4 for 60 days or more will automatically be escalated by our providers First Advantage.
- We are not aware of any current delays at Disclosure Scotland or Access NI.
DBS checks: The process explained
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) has a video that explains the process for a standard and enhanced DBS check. This video includes a brief summary of the work of the DBS and then focuses on how standard and enhanced certificates are produced, and the various stages each application has to go through.
