Our World number 1 Amy Truesdale secured a Paralympic bronze medal today – beating Iran’s Rayeheh Shahab 41-31 in the repechage bronze medal match.
A great achievement and everyone back home is so so proud of Amy!
Amy said ” Going back with a bronze medal will create more opportunities for other athletes. It has been an amazing experience. It is the biggest competition I will ever do in my life so I am glad to be part of it and have secured a medal”
Amy’s bronze, together with Beth Munroe’s silver yesterday, takes GB Taekwondo’s Paralympic medal tally to two, from 3 qualified places, smashing the UK Sport target.
Joe Lane also gave it his all today, but it was not be – as he went out in the repechage 18-23 to Mohamed Abidar. It was a great effort from Joe, who will have to set his sights on Paris 2024 for hardware!
Well done to all three athletes – you are an inspiration to everyone.
And a huge congratulations and pat on the back to Para-coach Andy Deer, Performance Director Gary Hall, and all the support team at GB Taekwondo for another job well done.
