The long-awaited Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games have kicked off!

GB Taekwondo athletes will make history as Taekwondo debuts at the Paralympic Games.

Taekwondo commences on Friday 3rd September with Beth Munro competing as the first GB Taekwondo athlete competiting at the Paralympic Games in the women K44 -58kg division. Earlier this year, Beth won gold at the 2021 European Qualification Tournament, and is determined to medal at the Paralympic Games.

Saturday 4th September sees Amy Truesdale competiting in the womens K44 +58kg division and Joe Lane competiting in the mens K44 +75kg division. Amy started Taekwondo in 1997 and is ranked number 1 in the womens K44 +58kg division. Joe was inspired to compete when it was announced that Taekwondo would become a Paralympic sport, and has previously medalled at the Kimunyong International Para Taekwondo Open and the Pan America Para Taekwondo Open.

Preliminary rounds are expected to begin at 2am BST, with thrilling matches through the morning. Catch the Paralympics on Channel 4.
