As members and club coaches will be aware, BT have developed and are regularly updating our return-to-play club guidance, with the next major milestone sometime around 21st June when hopefully, Covid restrictions ease further at Step 4 of the Westminster governments roadmap.
We are also communicating with DCMS, Sport England and other NGB’s around the return of competition for combat sports. This is Phase 3 of our return to play framework. At this moment, there is still no clear indication of what mass participation indoor events will look like, or when the restrictions on combat sport competition will lift as the government is yet to release any information.
We know that there are a few Taekwondo competition events planned for the next couple of months and some advertising entries and tickets. If you have entered, or plan to attend any competition event in the next few weeks and months, please be aware that these events will have to abide by whatever restrictions that may come into effect at the time, and some of these may significantly change the format, or even lead to cancellation of the event by the host in some cases, should it prove impossible to run.
In this uncertain period, we recommend that coaches keep in close contact with the local event organisers and be clear about policies regarding refunds for example, should an event be cancelled. Additionally, we would caution booking hotels unless you have the ability to cancel.
The events team at BT are as keen as everyone to get things moving again, but until we know what a return to indoor participation events looks like, we urge participants and hosts alike to be cautious.
This is a fast changing situation, and British Taekwondo is committed to providing regular updates and clarity to all those who care for our sport to ensure we can continue a safe and successful return over the coming weeks and months.
We will publish Phase 3 return to competition guidance as soon as we have it from government.
Sanctioning of New Events
British Taekwondo is also not able to accept or sanction requests for any new competition events.
This is also due to the current lack of clarity about how these events must take place, following the potential lifting of restrictions on indoor events.
We are monitoring Government channels carefully and will provide a comprehensive update to our local event hosts as soon as the Phase 3, return to competition for combat sport events is confirmed. In the meantime, we encourage potential competition organisers to wait to submit a sanction request until after the return to competition guidance has been published.
Any sanctioning requests submitted to British Taekwondo will be stored for review after the return to competition guidance is made available.
Gradings and other club based activity
Small club based activities such as Dan & Kup gradings, seminars and club training, that can operate within current social distancing and safety rules, are not affected by this event sanctioning pause and can proceed as long as event forms are correctly submitted and approval given, alongside full Covid Risk Assessments and Implementation plans being in place with all participants informed in advance of attendance.
If you have questions or queries about the return to competition, or a specific event please contact British Taekwondo by emailing email@example.com
Good luck with your club recovery and hopefully see everyone at events soon!
