A message from our Sports Performance Department

A new year, a fresh start and the beginning of 2021 gives us the perfect opportunity for the British Taekwondo Sport Department to connect with our members, clubs and coaches.

The last 11 months have been an unprecedented period in all our lives and has affected us in ways we could not have imagined. We entered 2020 with high hopes and ambitions then Covid-19 came along and hit us hard, pretty much stopping all activity with immediate effect. However, the indomitable spirit of our coaches and membership has been amazing to see, our clubs and coaches have adapted to find new ways of engaging with members and continue to deliver Taekwondo training using technology and innovative ideas, this is simply inspirational. We are still in the thick of the pandemic and it is clear that the need for mental, emotional and physical support is ever growing, we must stick together

We are extremely humbled and impressed to witness the amazing work that our coaching community have undertaken and continue to do so. We just want to take this opportunity to thank all the clubs and coaches who have taken the initiative to support their members and their communities whilst facing major challenges themselves. Equally we recognise the thousands of members who continue to kick through the pandemic and have been determined to remain focused and continue training and supporting your clubs and coaches. Keep going and keep pushing forward, we will reach the light at the end of the tunnel. Hats off to you all for your courage and determination.

The BT Sport Department was fully formed just over two months ago, and in that time we have had initial meetings to explore the current landscape, discuss the departmental Vision, Mission and Strategy along with the Values and Principles that we want to uphold. Some of you may have seen me share some of this information at the 2020 AGM but we will be sharing more in the not too distant future. The team before us have done a fantastic job and now we want to spend some time to formulate a plan to build on the strong foundations that have been put in place.

We understand how desperate everyone is to resume training in a normal way and to get back to events and squad training but unfortunately there is so much that is out of our control, it is simply impossible to put a timescale on this. While we continue to monitor the situation and follow the government guidelines, we assure you that there is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and hopefully when we are given the green light, we will be in a position to hit the ground running.

We are fortunate to have a very ambitious team who are open, honest and forward thinking. One of our core values is to provide “More Opportunities to More People” and we want our clubs and coaches to embark on this journey together with us as one collective team.

I have to admit, there is a lot of work to do and a lot of things to put in place that will take time and resource but with your support and understanding we are determined to make this happen. Undoubtedly, we will need help and support to deliver the various programmes in the future and we will be reaching out to our coaching community for your support and involvement so please look out for further information about this in due course.


For those of you that are not familiar with the members of our team or their positions here is a brief introduction to our roles:

Neil Parsley, Chair

Keeps us on track & focussed on our departmental goals. Has a neutral opinion and offers valuable insight as to how other successful sporting organisations function.


Steve Jennings, Operations Manager

Responsible for the day to day running of the department. Is tasked with finalising the strategy that ensures that in years to come we have a World Leading System in place for sustained success.


Siva Ramasamy, Head Coach

Leads on all training programmes and will shape the environment and culture of our squads. Is also tasked with building a sustainable coaching team for the future.



Donna Thomas, Squad Logistics Manager

Will ensure everything is in place for us to hold successful squad sessions. All applications and queries about squads or squad sessions should be directed towards Donna.



Daniel Flesher, Team Logistics Manager

Once teams are selected to compete at major championships. Dan will look after all logistics involved eg team training, team entries and team travel arrangements.


You will hear from us fairly soon and in the meantime, try to keep yourself active, keep supporting each other and we will see you as soon as we are allowed.
