As we have all seen in recent hours and days, the response to the Covid-19 pandemic has shifted again, as we see a worrying spike in cases in some areas, with the Westminster government changing lockdown measures nationally once again, and rolling back on some relaxation measures.
The Prime Minister and others in government have been talking about restrictions, from 14th September, to prevent large social gatherings that could spread the virus, and are now asking people in England not to meet socially in groups larger than 6 people.
In terms of the effect on organised sport in general, including our BT clubs, there has been no definitive guidance released so far that changes our previous understanding – that organised sport & physical activity, taking place in a Covid secure venue, and operating safely with a Covid risk assessment and Covid plan in place to keep their members safe and distanced is still permitted.
This means our current understanding is that clubs operating within British Taekwondo’s Phase 1 Return to Play guidance are not affected by this recent development.
We are however, (alongside many other sports!), in contact with Sport England and the Department of Culture Media & Sport, looking for more clarity and will keep everyone informed if anything changes in the coming days.
We can all play our part in keeping people safe from Covid, whilst promoting healthy physical activity within our communities.
Also, for our clubs and members in Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland – please keep checking the differences in local lockdown rules.
BT’s latest club assistance pack (V12) contains a detailed summary of these differences and other helpful guidance to get clubs through this difficult time.
