It is with great pleasure that we would like to wish British Taekwondo member Master Graham Jones a very happy 80th Birthday today.
Now, more than ever, the importance of Physical Activity to our health is clear. We can see this through the commitment and dedication of Master Graham Jones to Taekwondo and who celebrates his 80th birthday this weekend (Saturday 11th July).
Graham started his Taekwondo journey at Southampton University Taekwondo Club as one its first students under Too Meng Ken from Singapore. As a member of staff rather than a student, Graham took up Taekwondo in his late 30’s.
Graham has continued to be physically active in Taekwondo throughout, more recently attending a training camp in Seoul, South Korea in 2016 and put himself on the mats to grade for his 7th Dan in December 2017 at the age of 77.
Graham is a regular competitor in Poomsae competitions and is well known and respected by all those involved. He is a member of the GB Poomsae Squad, taking many hours to travel to the training sessions by bus and rail. Competing internationally, Graham’s most recent international achievement is a Bronze medal at the Belgium Open Championships in November 2019.
Many of the Instructors in Hampshire will have trained under Graham at some point
Amongst Graham’s organisational and leadership commitments over the years is that of President of TCGB and key to the establishment and development of British Taekwondo Student Federation (BSTF).
Graham is an inspiration to all of us, is someone whose values we can respect and to whom we can look to emulate. We look forward to seeing him continuing his Taekwondo journey and inspiring many more to do so.
