As you may have seen on TV today, the government have decided that leisure centres, gyms and indoor community sport in general must remain closed for the time being.
This is incredibly disappointing news for all of us that were expecting a relaxation in the Covid-19 lockdown measures and a return to training in some form from 4th July.
We have been working hard behind the scenes to prepare the guidance and resource tools that will handhold clubs through a process to make your classes as Covid-19 secure as possible, but we are unable to release this advice until the National governments ease the restrictions.
Along with other sports, Taekwondo plays an important part in peoples physical health and mental wellbeing, and we were looking forward to getting people back in the club in an orderly and safe manner.
Whilst it is great that more and more parts of the economy are opening (with bars and other types of hospitality venues allowed to open from the 4th July), we had expected that physical activity and community sport, like Taekwondo, could play its part in getting the country going again, especially when you consider the health benefits.
We are liaising with Sport England and other sports, who are all in the same boat, and everyone in the leisure and community sport sector is working really hard to demonstrate to that we are ready to return to play.
We will keep you updated as much as we can as the government response to the pandemic changes quickly so please keep checking our website, but for now our clubs must remain closed, apart from the small opportunities for very small groups to train outdoors as previously detailed.
Keep safe, and fingers crossed for some good news in the coming days!
