Member Health and Safety

British Taekwondo recently conducted a competitive tender process to support our commitment to member Health & Safety, and ensure that we remain compliant with all UK Health & Safety legislation. After a technical and commercial review of all tenders by our Nominations & Remunerations Committee, we selected Health & Safety Support Services to fulfil this important role.

Our new BT H&S Adviser will be Tom Stammer, who is already well known to many of you in the Taekwondo world, and we will all benefit from Tom’s H&S experience mixed with his extensive knowledge of Taekwondo. Tom has a NEBOSH qualification, and is Technical Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). Tom also worked as a Legal H&S Compliance Coordinator for Center Parcs in recent years.

As part of the work for BT, we are now pleased to issue updated versions of British Taekwondo’s Health & Safety Policies & Procedures as follows: –BT Health & Safety Policy & ProceduresBT Guidance Note to Instructors/Coaches for Reporting of AccidentsBT Guidance Note to Instructors/Coaches for Managing and Reporting Head Injuries

We ask all coaches to fully familiarise themselves with these documents, ready for immediate implementation.

These documents can always be found on the BT website under Members & Clubs and on our Downloads page

With specific regard to Head Injuries

We cannot stress enough how serious this issue has become in all sports.

Should someone training or competing sustain a blow to the head, the guidance within British Taekwondo’s policies and procedures will advise you what to do during the first 48 hours and then how to determine a recovery period with a Gradual Return to Play/Training.

This is aimed at ensuring we protect our members and athletes alike should they sustain a concussion or be rendered unconscious. Seeking Medical support if necessary, and the role of the BT coach is one of the most critical in this recovery process.

If you have any specific enquiries about these documents, or any Health & Safety concerns within your club or event, please contact Tom directly on
