British Taekwondo Chief Executive Officer

The role of the CEO is to lead and manage the organisation to deliver the strategic outcomes as set by the Board. The Chief Executive will:

  • provide clear, decisive and effective strategic leadership to the British Taekwondo community;
  • develop and maintain a spirit of transparency, co-operation and goodwill; and
  • identify, manage, develop and recruit key people to the organisation as employees, contractors and volunteers.

Reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for leading and building a passionate team of staff, advisors, service providers and volunteers to assist in fostering and developing Taekwondo through strong regions, partnerships, sustainability, best practice, operational excellence, technology, marketing, innovation and inspiration.  The role will also involve. Responsibilities include development of and managing performance against an effective & purposeful annual budget for all the activity of the British Taekwondo; ensuring that financial controls and systems of risk management including data protection are robust and defensible; management and further development of BT’s Membership & Event Management system – The Hub.

You will also be responsible for fostering key commercial relationships to secure ongoing sponsorship and funding for the organisation.

To be considered for this role you will need to be an experienced leader with a proven record of building a robust and sustainable organisation or a senior manager ready for the next step into this leadership role.

You will have the ability to engage and develop positive relationships with the taekwondo community, including volunteers and the broad stakeholder group, and be able to recognise, evaluate and manage diverse views in a culturally responsive manner. As the senior executive, the Chief Executive Officer is required to represent British Taekwondo at the highest levels including WT, WTE, Sport England, UK Sport, commercial partners, members and stakeholder family to drive and articulate the strategic aims and business direction of the organisation with confidence and integrity

Financially literate with strong business acumen and governance reporting strengths, you will be proficient in creating and leading the achievement of strategic outcomes and delivery of operational plans. You will need to demonstrate a successful track record in managing like-sized businesses, budgets and resources, delivering against strategic objectives and driving business development.

You will have unquestionable integrity and character, and your commercial acumen will be matched by your sound judgment, creative decision making capability, integrity, political maturity and the capacity to negotiate the best possible outcomes for the achievement of strategic objectives

British Taekwondo Technical Director

British Taekwondo has embarked on a significant strategic and organisation transformational programme and it is reshaping the manner in which it delivers support and services to its membership and instructor community.

As part of this programme BT is restructuring the management team and introducing a Technical Director into the executive leadership team. This role will report directly to, and work closely with, the CEO and will be a member of a small but focused team. You will act as part of the leadership team of the organisation, holding a mandate for leading on the development and delivery across a number of key areas of the NGB operational delivery and change programme.

You will be key to providing essential support to the CEO and the British Taekwondo Board in achieving the goals which have been set within its wider strategic plan.

We will expect you to have experience within or close involvement with a Taekwondo organisation and be able to demonstrate a strong involvement or connection to and understanding of the full spectrum of the domestic and international taekwondo landscape, through to the grass roots and community sport landscape.  The role will require the establishment and maintenance of strong working relationships within World Taekwondo, World Taekwondo Europe, Kukkiwon and GB Taekwondo.

You will have a number of key areas of responsibility including:

  • Workforce Development and Education – You will lead on workforce development and the evolution of BT’s coach and official education programmes, overseeing content development and delivery to ensure BT has the right capacity and appropriately skilled volunteer base and workforce to help the organisation grow. You will assist in the further evolution of the Dan grading offer and programme for BT members
  • Events, Competitions and Athlete/Player Development – BT will be developing its event portfolio, aimed at providing BT membership meaningful and exciting competition opportunities across all BT codes.
  • Projects – BT will be running a number of projects across the organisation – particularly in the areas of disability sport and para taekwondo, female participation and the development of the martial art within older age group demographics. You will have an entrepreneurial mindset and be able to develop and lead these projects through periods of development and evolution and ultimately deliver them to the wider market.  You will have the opportunity to develop ideas and concepts across the landscape and with wider stakeholders and must have the ability to be flexible and adaptable in your approach whilst being rigorous with delivery and operation.
  • Operational Management – You will actively support and deputised for the CEO when required and provide leadership to some key areas of the organisation including Competitions & Events and Grading.
  • International / External Relations – working alongside the CEO you will play an active part in fostering strong relations and effective collaboration with organisations BT works with which include but are not limited to: WT, WTE, GB Taekwondo, Taekwondo Organisation Limited, UK Sport, Sport England, British Paralympic Association, Scottish Council of Taekwondo, Sport Scotland, Northern Ireland Sport, Sport Wales and County Sport Partnership Network.

British Taekwondo Non-Executive Directors

British Taekwondo is seeking to strengthen its Board with individuals from its membership who wish to serve as Non-Executive Directors. As individuals they should have the passion, experience, interest, knowledge and skills to complement and improve the skills set already in place through the current Board.

An active involvement in British Taekwondo activities is essential and expertise in areas such as Athlete Welfare, Communications, Finance and Governance, would be particularly advantageous. Successful applicants should have a commitment to shaping and supporting our strategy going forward.

All Board Directors should bring their experience from employment and/or voluntary activity to benefit British Taekwondo and the ability to listen carefully, analyse clearly, question constructively and behave collectively and with integrity would be important assets. They will need to understand and appreciate the interests of all stakeholders.

The Board is responsible for Strategy, Finance, Governance; it has overall scrutiny of all British Taekwondo activities including its Executive and Committees. Experience and understanding of these aspects will be helpful.

Board Directors would be:

• Appointed for a 3-year term with eligibility for a further 3-year term. Such appointments are required to be approved by Members at the next Annual General Meeting.
• Expected to attend weekday Board meetings which are currently held in Manchester where the British Taekwondo Head Office is based.
• Able and willing to commit 5 days per year for Board meetings, AGM and national events, plus some extra time for British Taekwondo activity as needed.
