GB Success at the European Para Championships!!

History was made at the 5th European Para Championships in Warsaw, Poland! BT TKD Poomsae had its first and biggest team of fully classified Para Poomsae players at the tournament.

Samantha Carrington in took gold and bronze respectively in P33 and 34. Francesca Pivaro took silver in P34 being narrowly beaten by the Czech Republic. Ben Savage also took silver against the Italians.

Marc Lynes and Alex Hutchins, both P20, didn’t quite make the finals but performed with the passion and fun we have come to expect from them both. There is a call to have this division divided due to the vast differences in disabilities.

Each athlete at the event was inspirational and a credit to GB.

Derek Sumner, Team Manager and Poomsae Chairman said

“The team were outstanding in all areas and it is a joy to be a part of it. I feel honoured and proud of the team and it was a delight to see our national flag raising and national anthem played.”

A huge thank you goes out to the team getting the players ready:

Head of Team – Master Tom Stammer

Team Manager – Master Derek Sumner

Head Coach – Master Gemma Biescas

GB Para Assessor – Ian Murphy

Also in support was our very own Para Kyorugi player Amy Truesdale and coach Master Peter Johnson. The Poomsae Team then got behind Amy to support her through two battles to take the European Title for the 3rd time! Congratulations Amy!

A huge thank you to all for a Championship full of smiles, passion, dedication and true TKD spirit.

In just a week’s time BT Poomsae will head to Peru in search of more success. The journey continues. We wish them all the best of luck!
