Harrogate K.R. Ali Taekwondo Academy kicked into June having organised and hosted a very successful International Poomsae Seminar for the second time around.
Over 50 delegates from all over the world attended the two-day event at the Rossett Sports Centre. Several members of the Britishs Taekwondo Poomsae Squad also travelled to Harrogate, along with the Chairman of British Taekwondo, Poomsae, Derek Sumner. Under the tuition of the renowned Grandmaster Ik Pil Kang, attendees were able to refine their skills and learn new Poomsae techniques. Grandmaster Ik Pil Kang is an 8th Dan Black belt, and travelled all the way from South Korea for the Seminar.
Master Kambiz R Ali, founder and CEO of Harrogate based K.R Ali Taekwondo Academy, opened the Academy in 2005 after moving to Harrogate and recognising a demand for the art and sport in the area.
The unique event is a great example of the ties K.R. Ali Taekwondo Academy has forged with South Korea, the birthplace of Taekwondo. In April 2015 these ties were recognised when “Harrogate Road’’ in Dobong, a district of Seoul, was named in their honour. In November 2015 Master Ali returned to South Korea to open the “Harrogate Sports Academy”, in Seoul. The opening ceremony was attended by special guests: Harrogate’s local MP Andrew Jones, Mayor Nick Brown, Chief Superintendent Adam Thomson, Director of Visit Harrogate Mike Newby and Councillor Jim Clark.
Testament to the positive way that sport and the community can work together, Nick Brown said: “I am very excited to be working with Master Ali during my term as Mayor.
“He has dedicated the past 10 years to Taekwondo and working with the Harrogate Council.”
Master Ali has said “I am extremely proud of how well the seminar has gone.
“The quality of students that attended was exceptional, and being able to learn from Grandmaster Kang is a great honour.”
One of the many highlights of the two-day event was the spectacular demonstration of acrobatic Taekwondo by a team of young boys and girls from the Korean Martial Arts Institute, Incheon City. They had travelled to Harrogate with the President of the institute, Grandmaster Kiyoung Suk, Secretary General, Master Jung Il Lee and Director of the demonstration team, Master Moonkyu Oh and Grandmaster Boksil Ko.
The seminar was sponsored and supported by several local businesses including, Rossett Sports Centre, The Cairn Hotel, Jinnah Restaurant, Taylors of Harrogate and Andy Rowson (Photographer).
Congratulations to Harrogate Club K.R.Ali Academy for hosting and organising a brilliant event!
