5th Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships 2011 – Open to Registration of Interest for athletes and team coach – Team England

The Taekwondo Federation of India, under the aegis of Commonwealth Taekwondo Union, is organizing the 5th Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships from 28 to 31 January 2011 at Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu Multipurpose Hall, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Complex, Periamedu, Chennai, India. Rules of competition: WTF Competition Rules. Single Elimination Tournament.

Attendance to this event will need to be self funded. Athletes should therefore only register an interest if there is a commitment and ability to fund the event in its entirety before departure.

Subject to sufficient interest to select a team that have the potential to compete and win medals, it is anticipated the team will depart 24 January and return 1 February.

Travel costs are given as a guide only, however, it is anticipated will be in the range of £1300 to £1600 to include flight, full board accommodation, team kit, travel insurance, visa and ground transfers. Further information will be made available to those who register an interest.

Any athlete wishing to be considered to represent Team England at this event should send the following to:

· CV of their proven competition results during the last 12 months and outline why they feel they should be selected

· Scanned copy of their valid passport and BTCB licence

· Choice of weight category and age group

Applicants under the age of 18 are to have a registration of interest submitted by their parent/guardian.

To be considered for eligibility athletes must satisfy the following requirements:

· Hold nationality of the participating team

· Holder of Kukkiwon Poom / Dan Certificate

· Age qualification for participation is:

– Junior athletes: aged above 14 years through 17 years – born between 01/01/94 to 31/12/97 based on the year 2011

– Senior athletes: aged above 17 years – born on or before 31/12/93

· Athletes must compete either in Junior Division or Senior Division – not both

· A current and valid BTCB licence

· A valid British passport (with at least six months validity at time of return date of travel)

A visa is required for travel.

NADA will carry out random medical doping tests among participating athletes. For the therapeutic use of a prohibited substance on the WADA list of prohibited substances and prohibited methods, STUK/BTCB will be required to send the WTF a form of therapeutic use exemption – for more information on TUEs and anti-doping, please visit the WTF website at

Team England Coach

BTCB will fund the return travel, visa, insurance, team kit and accommodation costs for one team coach representative based on the above travel outline/details.
