First ever Gibraltar athletes selected for British Taekwondo National Poomsae Squad

Back on Saturday 9th February 2013, a team from the British Taekwondo Gibraltar, participated at the British Taekwondo National Poomsae Championships held in Nottingham, UK.

As a consequence of their great performance, the British Taekwondo Poomsae Committee invited ALL four members of the Gibraltar Team (Lorena Garcia, Dana Garcia, Alexandra Lara and Megan Ruiz) to join the 2013 National Poomsae Squad. This is the first time ever, that Gibraltar athletes are selected for the BT National Poomsae Squad.

This is a unique and great opportunity for the Gibraltar team, for which a high level of commitment and dedication is required.

Gibraltar is situated at the southern tip of Spain and is only nearly 3 miles in length and ½ mile wide, with just over 30,000 inhabitants.

Taekwondo was initially introduced in Gibraltar some 25 years ago and it was not until 1999, that they joined British Taekwondo. It was then when British Taekwondo Gibraltar began to grow.

Both Masters Ernest and Edward Garcia would like to express how proud they are and hope that training as part of the National Poomsae Squad will provide them with new experiences and opportunities that will further their development of this Sport. Special thanks also goes to all the Instructors, members and their respective families, the local media, sponsors, Gibraltar Government and British Taekwondo for their continued support.
