British Taekwondo announce appointment of two new Non-Executive Directors to its Executive Board.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Jon Smith and Piers Martin for the position of Non-Executive Directors of the Executive Board of British Taekwondo. The appointment is effective as of January 1st 2013.

Both individuals bring a wealth of experience in sports marketing and development acquired in high level positions in the United Kingdom and internationally and are firmly committed in guiding and supporting British Taekwondo agenda in growing participation and delivering on our strategic goals.

Jon Smith founded the business First Artist in 1986 and has overseen the remodelling of the company since its flotation in 2001 as a football agency to its recent current status as a multi-functional, multi-national entertainment, financial, event and sporting group. He presided over the recent major equity purchase by Pivot Entertainment New York. He is responsible for staging many of Britain’s biggest sporting events, including the UK visits of major US sporting bodies, being NFL American Football, NBA Basketball and NHL Ice Hockey. Jon was also Chief Executive of The London Monarchs during their inaugural World Bowl winning season at Wembley. He is one of the recognised spokespersons for the UK sports industry and has raised over £50 million in various forms for sport in the UK over the last few years.

Piers Martin was the CEO of British Fencing until October 2012 and a member of the National Olympic Committee with linkage with many other sports and International federations. Piers has a proven track record of delivering a strategic vision and objectives in several sports and more recently have transformed an Olympic sport from an amateur sport into a well-defined, effective and achieving business. Piers delivered a significant increase in commercial revenue, funding and sponsorship, built a delivery structure that has achieved a step change in culture. He is currently engaged in other sport related projects.

The appointment of Jon and Piers has been decided following a comprehensive selection process and unanimous approval from British Taekwondo Council.
